2. Catholics don’t fear, you’re safe here This town was made to be a safe place for Catholics thanks to Cecilious Calvert! He founded the colony for this exact reason! In fact, Leonard Calvert allowed the colony to have an assembly to protect Catholics’ rights because more Catholics moved to Maryland!

3. Come to Maryland, home of the juicy fruit trees Most Colonists work on farms. They grow tobacco, corn, wheat, and of course, the wonderful and juicy fruit trees! Some farmers also raised cows for beef and milk in addition to working in the fields. If you come to Maryland and try the fruit, you won’t be sorry!

4. You want to be a fisherman, lumberman, or be able to ship stuff? Come to Maryland where jobs never run out. Jobs never run out here! We’ve got a long list of jobs, including, farming, fishing, shipping, and lumbering. You can choose a job suited just for you, so that you can make money while enjoying working. Some people even make money by selling slaves!

5. The climate is great, don’t be late!  Our hot, steamy, summers give perfect weather for growing tobacco! Also we’re provided with the sea for fishing.

Fun Facts on Maryland  Did you know that Maryland’s two nicknames are The Old Line State and the Free State?  Did you know that the colonists named Maryland “Maryland” because the colonists named it after King Charles’ wife, Queen Henrietta Maria, or Queen Mary?  The highest point in Maryland is Hove-Crest on backbone Mountain, measuring to 3,360 feet above sea level.  Maryland’s state song is Maryland, My Maryland and the artist that wrote it is James Ryder Randall.
