2
Engage, assess, intervene, and evaluate with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities.
3
Substantively and affectively prepare for action with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. Example: Enhance the well-being of our clients and others by assessing their needs.
4
Use empathy and other interpersonal skills. Example: While assisting a homeless lady (BR) last week, I put myself and my loved ones in her situation. I became engaged with her to seek assistance for her.
5
Develop a mutually agreed-on focus of work Example: Case Manager, BR, and I agreed on our course of action to assist her in finding shelter for the night.
6
Collect, organize, and interpret client data Example: Case Manager and I assessed her situation to gather data to determine exactly what services she needed.
7
Assess client strengths and limitations Example: While talking with BR we were able to understand her strengths and limits by discussing her current living situation and medical issues.
8
Develop mutually agreed-on intervention goals and objectives Example: As a team we all agreed BR would go to Sacred Pathways to eat lunch and get clothing. Then at 5:00 I would transport BR to Lumberton Police Dept. for placement at Lumberton Christian Care for 3 days.
9
Select appropriate intervention strategies. Example: During our assessment of BR we would ask various questions to find out exactly what she is seeking. The more intense questions we asked her the more information we were able to obtain.
10
Initiate actions to achieve organizational goals Example: We contacted Domestic Violence Center which was full and homelessness was her major issue instead of violence. We also contacted Monarch and they were full with 4 on their waiting list.
11
Implement prevention interventions that enhance client capacities. Example: We talked with BR about her HIV+ status and her drug addiction. I contacted our HIV Case Manager to complete an intake on BR so she could begin receiving thru this program.
12
Help clients resolve problems Example: We linked BR with the appropriate services obtain medical treatment for her medical condition and made arrangements for temporary shelter.
13
Negotiate, mediate, and advocate for clients. Example: I contacted HIV Case Manager and advocated for BR, because she had been enrolled in services with them approx. 6 years ago and they have been unable to contact her.
14
Facilitate transitions and endings. Example: I arranged a meeting with BR and HIV Case Manager to complete an intake. Enrolling in HIV services would ensure she will be able to receive her medication and medical treatment with no cost to her.
15
Social workers critically analyze, monitor, and evaluate interventions. Example: As we talked with BR you could tell she was hiding something and as we kept asking questions we determined she was not being honest with us.
