School Meals Initiative (SMI) Signed into law in l994 with Goals 2000 Mandated that all school meals would be consistent with: Dietary Guidelines RDAs Goals for age/grade levels

What Foods Count for Nutrient Analysis All foods served in a meal, including condiments are analyzed ALL foods for reimbursable student meals are included – no a la carte or adult sales

SMI Nutrition Review Includes On-site visit Nutrient analysis of one week’s menu with all: –Production records –Recipes used during week of review –Brand product labels –Review of milk invoices for 1 month (to determine fat levels of milk in selected school)
