Dmitri Mendeleev Periodic table
2
Dmitri Mendeleev Dmitri Mendeleev is known for his discovery of the periodic law and the creation of the first periodic table. He created this in 1869 in St. Pertersburg, Russia. -Dmitri Mendeleev was born in Tobolsk, Russia. -He was the youngest of 17 children. -As a child, Mendeleev’s mother’s glass factory burned down -Mendeleev studied at the Main Pedagogical institute in St. Petersburg
3
Scientific Facts -Mendeleev used Chemical spectroscopy as his method -There were 63 elements on his published periodic table -He arranged his table so that every element in every column had similar chemical properties -Mendeleev had to learn how to calculate valency for his periodic table -Mendeleev listed the elements on his table in order of atomic mass -He won the nobel prize as the creator of the 1 st periodic table of elements
4
Facts About Mendeleev’s Periodic Table -It was the first published periodic table -Mendeleev created the periodic law -The table was organized by atomic number, and the structure is still used in today’s periodic table of elements -The elements in his table are organized so that elements in the same column have similar chemical properties -Mendeleev left gaps in his periodic table that helped modern scientists fill in the spaces and figure out each element’s chemical and physical properties
5
Similar elements in the same column Holes left for future scientists to fill Organized by atomic number
