5 Before Reading-Predict  Look at the pictures and title  What do you think you’re going to find out in the article?

Expository articles are nonfiction.

One day, someone from the castle arrived and asked Cinderella and her stepsisters to attend a ball. The girl whose shoe fit in a glass slipper would become queen. 2. A girl named Cinderella was born to two loving parents. 3. Although she didn’t have to, she invited her mean stepmother and stepsisters to live with her and the prince at the castle. 4. Cinderella’s fairy godmother helped her turn into a princess but had to return home before midnight. 5. When Cinderella was young, her mother died and her father remarried a woman with two daughters. They were mean to Cinderella. 6. The prince and Cinderella were married. 7. Cinderella’s foot fit into the glass slipper but left before midnight and turned back to normal. 8. After the ball, the prince searched everywhere for the girl whose foot fit in the glass slipper. He came to Cinderella’s house and it fit!

13 Plot  Exposition  Exposition : Introduces characters and setting.  Rising action  Rising action : Introduces the conflict and action picks up.  Climax  Climax : The conflict becomes the most interesting and the problem is solved.  Falling Action  Falling Action : The events that happen after the climax.  Resolution  Resolution : Loose ends are tied up. (Happily Ever After or Not)
