2 Bell Ringer Prompt: Identify the NOUNS, ADJECTIVES, and VERBS in the following sentence. Answer: It’s a wonder that I just wasn’t thrown out, which was what I secretly hoped for. When finished, please get out your planner and add your homework assignment.

One day, someone from the castle arrived and asked Cinderella and her stepsisters to attend a ball. 2. A girl named Cinderella was born to two loving parents. 3. Although she didn’t have to, she invited her mean stepmother and stepsisters to live with her and the prince at the castle. 4. Cinderella’s fairy godmother helped her turn into a princess but had to return home before midnight. 5. When Cinderella was young, her mother died and her father remarried a woman with two daughters. They were mean to Cinderella. 6. The prince and Cinderella were married. 7. Cinderella attended the ball and was wearing glass slippers. She left before midnight and dropped one of her glass slippers and turned back to normal. 8. After the ball, the prince searched everywhere for the girl whose foot fit in the glass slipper. He came to Cinderella’s house and it fit!

10 Plot  Exposition  Exposition : Introduces characters and setting.  Rising action  Rising action : Introduces the conflict and action picks up.  Climax  Climax : The conflict becomes the most interesting and the problem is solved.  Falling Action  Falling Action : The events that happen after the climax.  Resolution  Resolution : Loose ends are tied up. (Happily Ever After or Not)

12 Stepwise  While watching this movie, think about what parts are what parts of the plot.

13 With Your Group  On top of your plot diagram, write down the parts of the film that go with each element of plot.

14 Question  Think about a time when you were set upon a course of action that was interrupted by an outside event or person? What happened? How did you feel?

15 Predict  Look at the pictures throughout the story and think about the title. What do you think is going to happen in this personal narrative?

16 After the 2 nd paragraph on 132  What do we know so far about the plot? Let’s write it down.

17 3 rd paragraph on 134  What does it mean, “the yard was replete with cousins?”  What details can we add to the rising action?

18 The paragraph with contradiction (pg 135)  Why is Julia’s family in a hurry to pack?

19 End of 135  What is the climax of the narrative?

20 Pg 136  What can we say are the falling action and resolution?

21  What does Julia mean by the title of her narrative, “My First Free Summer”?  Think about her excitement to not go to summer school. Also, think about her family escaping the United States.
