David- warrior king who made Israel powerful Solomon- son of David; diplomat not warrior Book of Kings and Chronicles in Bible Time of peace– made treaties with other countries Built Temple and palace, other luxurious buildings Arts- ivory carving, stonework, jewelry making, carpentry Literature- compiled or organized books of the Bible, poetry, psalms of David and Solomon

Solomon- wisdom God told him "I give you a heart so wise and understanding” Story of 2 women and the baby- cut in 2 Wisdom- knowledge and ability to recognize and follow God’s will in our lives. Holy Spirit is our source of wisdom today.

Solomon- Temple in Jerusalem begun in 968 BC and completed in 11 years was his greatest accomplishment. Nave- contained altars for incense and sacrifices Sanctuary- holy of holies- only high priests, contained ark of the covenant- cherubim( angels guarding the ark of the covenant.)

Psalms-written by David and Solomon Poetic prayer intended to be sung or chanted Liturgy of the Word in the Mass Liturgy of the Hours- official prayer of the Church Types of Psalms Royal- celebrate king Praise- for God or Zion Laments- sorrow Wisdom- teach Song of Songs- love poems written by Solomon
