2 Mandate – Public Law Land Remote Sensing Policy Act of 1992 (P.L. 102-555) Land Remote Sensing Policy Act of 1992 (P.L. 102-555) “It is in the best interest of the United States to maintain a permanent, comprehensive Government archive of global Landsat and other land remote sensing data for long-term monitoring and study of the changing global environment. ” “DOI shall provide for long-term storage, maintenance, and upgrading of a basic, global, land remote sensing data set...and shall follow reasonable archival practices to assure proper storage and preservation of the basic data set and timely access for parties requesting data.”

12 Mandate – Public Law “A licensee shall provide to the U.S. Government, upon request, a complete list of all archived, unenhanced data which has been generated by its licensed system which is not already maintained in a public catalog…” - 15 CFR § 960.11(b)(7) “A licensee shall make available unenhanced data requested by the National Satellite Land Remote Sensing Data Archive (''the Archive'') in the Department of the Interior on reasonable cost terms and conditions as agreed by the licensee and the Archive...” - 15 CFR § 960.11(b)(8) - 15 CFR § 960.11(b)(8) “Before purging any licensed data in its possession, the licensee shall offer such data to the Archive at the cost of reproduction and transmission. The Archive shall make these data available immediately to the public at a price equivalent to the cost of fulfilling user requests” - 15 CFR § 960.11(b)(9) - 15 CFR § 960.11(b)(9)
