The 10 Steps of AVID Tutoring
6
Steps 1-3 Before Tutorials
7
Step 1 of Tutoring 1.In their academic classes you take Cornell notes on the material presented in lectures, textbook readings, videos, and handouts. 2. After class students review their notes, create questions in the column of the left, and write a summary at the bottom of the page.
8
Step 2 of Tutorials For homework the night before a tutorial, you identify a class in which you are struggling/getting a low grade in. Write 2 higher level questions from your class work or homework. Write these 2 questions on the Tutorial Request Form.

Step 6 of Tutorials Group members help the student presenter think about the answer to his/her question by asking clarifying questions that check for understanding. When the student presenter understands the answer to the question he/she then communicates to the group this understanding.
