Hydro power 16.3 % Wind power 0.1 % Peat 6.9 % Other renewable 11.4 % Nuclear power 26.8 % Natural gas 10.3 % Coal 14.1 % Oil 1.9 % Net imports 12.2 % Electricity Supply by Energy Sources in 2001 81.6 TWh

TWh Electricity Consumption in Finland

Electricity Production Capacity in Finland

TWh Electricity Demand and Production Capacity in the Nordic Countries

Electricity import reduction Old capacity reduction Consumption Increase Biomass fuels (max) Saving (max) Wind power (max) Hydropower (max) 5 th nuclear unit Gas TWh Increase of Electricity Demand and Production in Finland until 2015

WHY ADDITIONAL NUCLEAR POWER? New nuclear power plant covers partly the additional electricity demand and replaces old power plants enables, together with renewables, the fulfilment of the Kyoto commitments secures stable and predictable electricity price reduces the dependence on electricity import
