3. Encyclopedias Give general information about almost any topic.  They won’t be as up-to-date as newspapers and magazines, so you wouldn’t look here for recent information.  Entries are listed alphabetically.

4. Index The most reliable method of finding information in most reference works is by using an index.  Entries are listed alphabetically.

5. Dictionary Dictionaries contain specific information about words. You can find the following information:  Correct spelling  Pronunciation  Syllables  Type of word (noun, verb, adjectives, etc.)  Definition  Language or country of origin

6. Almanacs: This is a book-like calendar published every year that also gives information about the weather, sun, moon, stars, tides, church days, and other facts.

7. Atlas: A book of maps. You can also find information about latitude and longitude coordinates, topography (type of land), population figures, elevations, settlement patterns, agricultural patterns, and transportation routes.
