Encyclopedias Give general information about almost any topic. They won’t be as up-to-date as newspapers and magazines, so you wouldn’t look here for recent information. Entries are listed alphabetically.

Index The most reliable method of finding information in most reference works is by using an index. Entries are listed alphabetically.

Dictionary Dictionaries contain specific information about words. You can find the following information: Correct spelling Pronunciation Syllables Type of word (noun, verb, adjectives, etc.) Definition Language or country of origin

Almanacs: This is a book-like calendar published every year that also gives information about the weather, sun, moon, stars, tides, church days, and other facts.

Atlas: A book of maps. You can also find information about latitude and longitude coordinates, topography (type of land), population figures, elevations, settlement patterns, agricultural patterns, and transportation routes.
