2. Columbus – textbook perspectives from around the world 1. Read U.S. textbook excerpt Look at…what book is it from? Can you guess the tone or attitude of the authors toward Columbus? 2. Highlight or underline all words/phrases that are SUBJECTIVE

3. WITH YOUR SMALL GROUP Go through each HOMEWORK READING highlighting/underlining in the same way (subjective v. objective)

4. Individually : DESIGN A TEXTBOOK -- Imagine that you are designing a world history textbook to cover Columbus’ voyage.  Create a CHART (one per person!) that lists what information should be included…and what should be left out. Think about…  Is it even POSSIBLE to write a completely objective textbook?  How should the textbook handle subjective information?
