City of Gresham implemented the Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic System (SCATS) as the adaptive traffic signal control system in an effort to reduce vehicle delays, travel times, cycle failures and number of stops.
4
Portland State University 44 Objective of the Project Evaluate the potential benefits of the adaptive traffic signal control system deployed along east Burnside Road in Gresham. Evaluate the effectiveness of the SCATS system by comparing with two other traffic signal operating system (TOD & TOD-SCATS). Previously collected data for the comparison of travel time, vehicle delay, cycle failures and number of stops will be analyzed and compared for each traffic signal operating mode.

Analysis (What we need to do) Comparison of Travel Time, Delay, number of stops for SCATS,TOD- Wapiti, and TOD-SCATS. -- Comparisons will be for both 1 and 2hr durations for each route and direction. -- Comparisons will be for both 1 and 2hr durations for each route and direction. Analysis of Vehicle Delay Surveys (From video) 24 hour and peak hour Volume Comparison (From SCATS Traffic Reporter) --by day, by day of week, by weekday VS. weekday and by Weekend VS. Weekend --by day, by day of week, by weekday VS. weekday and by Weekend VS. Weekend Comparison of SCATS volumes with 24 hour tube counts. --Evaluate count data provided by the SCATS system via inductive loop detectors at several intersections versus 24 hour tube counts conducted by lane on Burnside road. --Evaluate count data provided by the SCATS system via inductive loop detectors at several intersections versus 24 hour tube counts conducted by lane on Burnside road. Volume weighted travel time comparison. Comparison of SCATS volumes with manual count from video. --Comparison between count data (by SCATS system) via inductive loop detectors and manual counts conducted by historical video. --Comparison between count data (by SCATS system) via inductive loop detectors and manual counts conducted by historical video.
