March 4, 2014 Concrete poetry H omework: F inish concrete poem. Poetry test on Friday, March 7th! Objective: I can identify the elements of a concrete poem. Warm Up (in your composition book) Make a three column chart in your comp book. Label the columns ROOT, WORD, DEFINITION. This is for unit 5 vocabulary.

Today we will be looking at another form of poetry - the concrete poem. What is a concrete poem?

concrete poem ( also called a shape poem) poetry whose visual appearance matches the topic of the poem. The words form shapes which illustrate the poem’s subject as a picture, as well as through their literal meaning.

Your turn! In your groups of 4, think back to the 4 narrative poems that we have read: Each person will pick one poem, and create a concrete poem relating to this narrative. Pick an image that you think really represents something major in the narrative and create a poem based on this image. Be sure to use important wording as you create your poem.
