INSTRUMENTS USED DURING EXAMINATION Diagnostic instruments are: 1. Mouth mirror. 2. Dental explorer(probe). 3. Tweezers. 1\DIAGNOSTIC INSTRUMENTS

Uses of mouth mirrors: 1\To reflect light in the mouth. 2\To retract lips, cheeks, and tongue. 3\To provide indirect vision. 1\MOUTH MERRORS

They are also called cement carriers as they are used to carry the mixed cement into the prepared cavity. In past these instruments were made of plastic, but now are available in either hard plastic or metal. They are two types 1\ Dycal applicator. 2\Cement spatula 2\PLASTIC INSTRUMENTS

2\CONDENSER Used to pack and condense amalgam into cavity preparation. Single or double sided. Smooth or serrated ends

3\BURNISHER hand instrument with rounded edges nibs are smooth with different angulations and different shapes (ball shape-egg shape-bullet shape ….etc) used to: polish or burnish the amalgam restoration by rubbing the surface to make it shiny

4\CARVERS: Used to carve and contour the occlusal anatomy of amalgam restoration
