The Real World and Dress Code There are very few work places, outside your home, where you are not held to some standard of dress.

Businesses have dress standards for providing services to their customers:

Dress and Grooming Redwater ISD’s Dress Code is established to Teach grooming and hygiene Prevent disruption Promote safety Teach respect for authority. Students should dress and groom themselves in a manner that is appropriate for an educational setting.

Shirts/Dresses/Tops ▫Must cover the entire upper body including Shoulders Underarms Chest

Shirts Sheer/thin/see-through fabrics ▫Must be worn with a shell or tank top that completely covers the undergarments ▫No spaghetti straps/Visible camisole straps

Unacceptable Sleeveless shirts Tank tops Camisoles Cropped tops Halter tops Visible undergarments

Dresses/Skirts/Shorts No shorter than fingertip length when arms are by the side Fingertip length all the way around Slits must be no higher than fingertip length

Leggings May be worn with top, dress, skirt that is fingertip length when arms are by the side – including slits

Pants/Jeans Worn at the waist Free of holes or tears that expose undergarments or over conspicuous parts of the body No pajamas or sleepwear including testing days

Shoes Must be worn at all times Closed toe shoes required in the vocational shop and laboratory science classes No house shoes, house slippers, cleats, skate shoes, boots with spurs

Hair/Makeup Hair and facial hair must be neatly groomed Should not distract from classroom activities

Jewelry/Piercings/Accessories Pierced earrings in ears only Prescription glasses only No gauges Heavy neck chains Wallet chains Sunglasses

Headgear No hats, caps, hoods, beanies, toboggans may be worn inside the buildings These are subject to confiscation

Unacceptable Patches, emblems, slogans, tattoos, writings, pictures on clothing or body that advertise ▫intoxicating beverages ▫Tobacco ▫Drugs ▫Prohibited substance ▫Lewd, offensive, vulgar, obscene, profane, gang related or double entendre ▫Denote highly controversial issues or organizations

The district prohibits any attire that, in the Principal’s judgement may interfere with or create safety concerns during normal school operations.

If the Principal, who is the final authority on the propriety of clothes, hairstyle, and jewelry, determines that the student has violated the dress code, the student shall be given a chance to correct the violation at school. If not corrected, the student will be sent home to make necessary changes. (This will be an unexcused tardy or absence.) Repeated offenses will results in detention and eventually ISS.
