This is an interdisciplinary course which is still evolving.
The instructor’s responsibility is to facilitate your learning process.
The student’s responsibility is to learn and to be evaluated during the process of learning!

4. Course Objectives
At the conclusion of this course, students should be able to:-
Identify, evaluate and prevent and implement methods of controlling occupational hazards and human health risks
Learn about professional & ethical responsibilities of an occupational safety and health specialist
Describe the history of safety and health movement in the U.S., including understanding the significant safety and health legislations and factors leading to these movements

5. Course Objectives (continued)
At the conclusion of this course, students should be able to:-
Demonstrate the organization of effective environmental programs and how to respond to emergencies
Describe important sources of accident loss control information
Describe organizational aspects of health and safety programs and the principles of occupational health, IH and ergonomics; and
Demonstrate and use loss control information for developing effective loss and hazards control programs at workplaces

7. Motivation for OSH&E at academia and workplace
OSH and Environment is an integral part of the expanded or larger domain of the environment:-
Stricter laws and regulations have evolved over time in the U.S. and across the world – as a result of the tragedies at the workplace
local laws, national or state and federal and even international laws - identify some of these laws – voluntary and non-voluntary
Specific product environmental and safety regulations
People are more aware and conscious about OSHE aspects of workplace activities

8. Motivation for OSH&E at academia and workplace
Injuries and fatalities
Damage losses and reimbursement
Effect on the national economy (macro-economics) – billions dollars per year and effects on the person or individuals (micro-economics)
Stricter laws, rules, regulations are evolving on a daily basis
OSHA, workman’s compensation, legal issues, liability, etc.
The interactions among worker, machine, and environment is complex

Evaluation (grades) are based on a 10-point scale
Individual assignments are posted

“Online attendance” – mandatory (A grade of FY and FN reflects a student’s attendance at least 60% of the time)
