2. Lieksa- where is it? Lieksa is in North Karelia, eastern Finland A large area, 4067 sq.km, a lot of lakes and hills, about 13300 inhabitants + numerous bears and wolves We share a 130-km border with Russia inthe east, in the west Lake Pielinen

7. Lieksan lukio upper secondary school a school of 230 students of 16-19 we offer the ’normal’ all-round secondary education leading to the national school- leaving examination a wide range of languages and emphasis on science and maths

Our Comenius 1 project : ” Habits and differences in the nutrition culture of the two populations: Lombard, Italy and North Karelia, Finland” The partner school was found through the Comenius mailing list in Oct., 2004 Liceo Scientifico ”Federico Enriques” Lissone –the co-ordinating school The two-week visits: the Finns in Lissone, Italy Oct 2005, the Italians in Lieksa, Finland end of March/early April

9. Activities In Italy and Finland: following ’normal’ school lessons, visits to food producing companies and local restaurants serving typical regional food, lectures on OGM (I) and functional foods (F), surveys (through questionnaires) on eating habits of Italian/Finnish students making a joint mini cookery book of typical Italian and Finnish recipes In Finland: practical experience in making Karelian dishes and rye bread Cultural pursuits: concert, theatre performance and visits to La Scala, art gallery, museums,churches,

10. Other activities trips to regional places of interest in both countries (Milan, Venice, Joensuu, Kuopio, Nurmes) winter & snow activities in the Koli Hills and Ruunaa hiking area parties etc. etc.
