Cause and Effect What causes the apple tree to grow? An apple seed is planted. What effect does planting an apple seed have? An apple tree grows. Objective: To recognize cause-and-effect in a text. Good readers try to figure out what happens and why it happens when they listen to and read stories. What happens is called the effect and why it happens is called the cause.
