10
1 Cor 13, gives us the appropriate application of AGAPE love and helps us to apply PSD #8 in the protection and recovery from betrayal.
11
15 Points of Application for I.U. Love Verses 4-8
12
1 Cor 13:5,
13
a) Love does not act unbecomingly:
14
ASCHEMONEO - to act unbecomingly, behave improperly; disgrace oneself, to be put to shame, or unseemingly. “To behave dishonorably”, Cf. 1 Cor 7:36
15
b) Love does not seek its own: ZETEO - "seek" with the understanding of deliberating, demanding, inquiring, or looking.
16
As an idiom - “strive for one’s own interest or advantage”. John 5:30; Phil 2:21; 1 Cor 10:24
17
It’s a reference to the various lusts of our Old Sin Nature in self-gratification.
18
The filling of the Holy Spirit never tries to gratify power lust, approbation lust, materialism lust, etc., because love does not seek its own interests, it seeks God's will. Cf. 1 John 2:15-17.
19
The correct application of the spiritual life, John 5:30, “I can do nothing on My own initiative. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is just, because I do not seek My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.”
20
The contrast is found in; Phil 2:21, “For they all seek after their own interests, not those of Christ Jesus.”
21
We are commanded in; 1 Cor 10:24, “Let no one seek his own good, but that of his neighbor.”
22
c) Love is not provoked: PAROXUNO - "to sharpen", figuratively to stimulate or to provoke, but in the negative sense as to urge, prick or spur.
23
In regards to the individual, it means to be irritable and be greatly upsetting. In our verse, "does not easily become angry, irritated or have tantrums".
24
This shows the contrast: I.U. Love is not based on the person you love or the situation.
25
AGAPE is based on Bible Doctrine resident in your soul that gives you capacity while Personal love is based on the likeability of the person or situation you are in.
26
When filled with the Spirit you are never going to have a tantrum. It is impossible to be filled with the Spirit and be angry, Acts 15:39; 17:16.
27
Acts 15:39, “And there occurred such a sharp disagreement that they separated from one another, and Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus.”
28
Acts 17:16, “Now while Paul was waiting for them at Athens, his spirit was being provoked within him as he was observing the city full of idols.”
29
d) Love does not take into account a wrong suffered: LOGIZOMAI is used in the sense of "an account" or "reckoning", "to reckon", or " to consider".
30
It is linked with KAKOS meaning evil, bad, wrong; injury, harm, foul, or troublesome.
31
I.U. Love forgives and forgets and does not have revenge motivation, nor is it implacable.
32
When you are filled with the Spirit you don't put your nose into other people’s affairs and then malign them, you mind your own business and treat them in grace.
33
1 Cor 13:6,
34
a) Love does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth:
35
ADIKIA - injustice, unrighteousness, wrongdoing, evil, or sin. ALETHEIA - "truth", the Word of God as the absolute truth.
36
“Rejoice in unrighteousness” - revel in sin and/or evil, which includes human good. This is the mental attitude of the carnal believer.
37
They are glad when they, and/or others around them enter into sin. They rejoice in living a sinful / carnal lifestyle and encourage others to do the same.
38
The believer filled with the Spirit, rejoices when taking in, metabolizing, and applying God's Word.
39
Rejoicing is having the inner happiness of God, (+H = PSD #9), expressed in thanksgiving for the Word in your soul.
40
The contrast is between walking in sin and walking in the light of Jesus Christ. Prov 2:9-15, 20-22; 29:2-7; James 4:16; 1 John 1:5-10
