S.Francis Xavier, EE(E) 4. Shri. S.Sathyanarayanan, SDE(E), Energy Auditor 5. Shri. C.R.Sreenivasan, SDE(E) 6. Shri. S.Ravindrakumar, JTO(E) 7. Shri. R.Venkatesh, JTO(E)
4
ENERGY AWARD ENERGY CONSERVATION ACHIEVEMENTS HIGHLIGHTED IN THE PROPOSAL
5
ENERGY AWARD 1.Rationalisation of DC load Diversion of Exchange loads from E10B to EWSD and scrapping E10B Savings Achieved due to the above measure= Rs 11,68,000/- per annum Savings in kWH = 23.36kWH
6
ENERGY AWARD 2.Rationalisation of CMD CMD reduced from 400kVA to 300kVA Savings Achieved due to the above measure= Rs 3,60,000/- per annum
7
ENERGY AWARD 3.Improvement in Power Factor Power Factor Improved from 0.99 to unity by switching off excess lighting /inductive loads and frequent monitoring. Savings Achieved due to the above measure= Rs 30,362/- per annum

POWER PLANT Replacement of 2000 A Conventional power plant with SMPS power plant Existing plant Scrapped. New plant awaited Target for replacement: Mar’08
10
POWER PLANT η of old PP = 75% Power consumed by Eqpt = 92kW Standard η of SMPS PP = 95% Power Consumption by new SMPS = 75% x 92kW / 95% = 73kW Diff in Power consumption = 92-73 = 19kW Calculations
11
POWER PLANT Saving in Energy Consumption per annum = 19kW x 365 x 24 = 166440 units Cost of Energy per unit = say Rs 5/- Savings per annum for BSNL = Rs. 8,32,200/- Calculations
12
POWER PLANT Cost of new Power plant being enquired to calculate the pay back period of this EC measure Calculations
13
AC UNITS Outlived AC units Replacements Conf HallCo axial Room Existing Capacity 9 TR72 TR Proposed Capacity 7.5 TRHeat Load study being conducted (approx. 24 TR is sufficient)
14
TRANSFORMER Replacement of 750 kVA oil cooled transformer with 400kVA resin cast transformer Age of Existing Transformer > 20years 750kVA400kVADiff Core Loss3450W1840W1610W No Load Loss data
15
Annual Savings in kWH=7050 kWH (operation of transformer for six months per year) Cost of new Transformer being enquired to calculate the pay back period of this EC measure TRANSFORMER
16
PUMPS Water level controllers for all centrifugal pumps Three types of controllers identified. 1.Switching off the pump automatically, when the OH tank is full 2.Starting the pump when level in the OH tank is LOW and switching it off when the OH tank is FULL 3.Similar to (2) above & stopping the pump, if water in the source tank (sump) depletes
17
PUMPS Prices and models suitable for the building are being enquired. Currently, the pumps are switched off only after water overflows from the OH tank at 7th Floor and attracts staff nearby
18
GENERAL AWARENESS The PCE(E), Chennai addressed a gathering of over 125 executives on 15/06/2007 to disseminate information on EC act & EC Building Code. Three Core Group meetings conducted by GMT, Salem SSA during 2007. The GMT, Salem has approved the proposal for MD controller All the staff in the building were found to be highly energy conscious and cases of energy wastage due to negligence were found to be minimal.
