Born Alan Eugene Jackson on October 17, 1958, in Newnan, GA. Parents are Joseph Eugene Jackson & Ruth Musick. He has 4 older sisters. He grew up singing gospel at church and at home. A friend introduced him to the music of Gene Watson, John Anderson and Hank Williams Jr. Alan Jackson was part of a duo when he was a teenager. After being married for 6 years, to his high school sweetheart, Denise, Alan and his wife moved to Nashville. Early Life

Alan Jackson wrote his first song in 1983. Jackson projected a wholesome, image that was down-to-earth that made him well liked. He is best known for his blending of traditional honky tonk music and Nashville country sounds. He has written many of his own songs including 35 number one hits with 50 total songs in the Top 10. He has received multiple awards including Grammys, CMA Awards and ACM Awards. Jackson is a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Career

Released in October of 2001 just after the 9/11 attacks. The song debuted at the 2001 CMA Awards and was such a hit that Jackson’s site crashed the day after the performance from server requests. Soon after it was released as a single. Reminds me of ballad tradition of writing about events in the community. Jackson was hesitant to release this song because he didn’t know how the public would like it. Where Were You(When the World Stopped Turning)

Written in May 1993 by Alan Jackson and Jim McBride. Hit the top of the charts just before his daughter was born. Jackson said, "It's a song about having fun, growing up, and coming of age in a small town - which really applies to anyone across the country, not just by the Chattahoochee.
