+ So, Why Puerto Rico? Having had a taste of Puerto Rican cuisine in Seattle, Chris was instantly curious to learn more about it. After living in Puerto Rico for 2 years, Mary Beth grew fond of the unique culture and the differences between this tiny island and the mainland. CHRIS’ EXPERIENCEMARY BETH’S EXPERIENCE

+ La Cultura Influences from Tiano Indians, Africa, Spain, North America create a huge melting pot of cultures Passionate and festive peoples, where every town has their own patron saint to be celebrated by all Dancing and music play an important role in culture

+ La Familia Puerto Rican families have strong ties and bonds and consider family to foundation of social structure Women are traditionally married at a young age Family honor extends beyond immediate family Generations live under one roof, and married couples often live with or near parents It is uncommon to find elderly homes on the island Children are great contributors around the household and often do not move out until married
