2 Purpose and Members Objectives Influence decision-making by providing support to establish new or change existing policies affecting young people and HIV Mobilize political and financial resources for young people and HIV Enhance partnerships with different constituencies/stakeholders (governments, civil society, youth organizations, development partners, etc.) to institutionalize and scale up HIV prevention, treatment and care for young people Ensure the priorities and human rights of young people are highlighted at international meetings, conferences, and in the work of the IATT members’ respective organizations and agencies Members GYCA (facilitator) AfriYAN Alliance of Youth CEOs ILO UNAIDS UNESCO UFNPA UNODC World AIDS Campaign

3 Completed Activities Presentations on Global Guidance Briefs at International AIDS Conference and at ICASA Briefs distributed to members accompanied by a letter reaffirming our commitment to youth participation and capacity building Finalizing slides for members to use when presenting the briefs and a dissemination strategy for the briefs

4 Future Activities Main topics for discussion One major activity and one smaller activity proposed for the upcoming year Organize a global forum to increase the presence of young people on the global AIDS agenda Proposed date: March 2010 Prepare advocacy briefs on specific key topics related to young people and HIV, such as the importance of age- disaggregated data, youth-friendly health services, etc.

5 Proposed Forum OBJECTIVES To raise awareness among key stakeholders ( Policy makers, donors, UN agencies, civil society etc) and to share knowledge and experience on effective approaches and partnerships for effective HIV prevention among young people, especially most- at-risk young people; and To mobilize political and financial support towards achieving the global commitments as well as the goal of universal access to HIV prevention, treatment and care for young people.

6 Proposed Forum Cont. “To intensify prevention, treatment and care for young people and in particular scaling up of proven interventions that work as regards HIV prevention as mentioned in the political declaration, the IATT/YP will host a 3-Day Consultation meeting. Over the three days, it is expected that all stakeholders will come to a consensus on what actions need to be taken at the global, regional and national levels to scale up HIV prevention among young people. This forum will also feed into the XVIV International AIDS International AIDS Conference in Vienna in 2010.”

7 Proposed Forum Cont. PARTICIPANTS AND PARTNERS The participants will include 100 representatives from civil societies (including young people), UN agencies, multi-lateral and bilateral donors, national governments, international organizations, media, academic and research institutions and the private sector. PREPARATION FOR THE GLOBAL PARTNERS MEETING In order to achieve the objectives of the meeting, funding is sought to undertake the following key preparatory exercises among others: Meeting to discuss and document lessons learned in SRH/HIV/AIDS programming for young people Determining resource allocation, spending and resource gaps needed to scale up HIV prevention, treatment and care for young people

8 Advocacy Brief(s) Two options 1) Wait to see how the Global Guidance Briefs are being used and then push for an issue that is getting good traction or is being left of the table; or 2) Independent of the Briefs, select an issue or issues and draft short, two-page advocacy briefs on those topics

9 Additional Activities Is there a key activity or topic the Advocacy Working Group needs to work on in 2009-2010? How can this working group support and/or bring together work from the other working groups?
