2 Wisława Szymborska Polish poet, essayist, literary critic, translator, columnist, member and founder of the Polish Writers' Association (1989), member of the Polish Academy of Sciences (1995), winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature (1996), awarded the Order of the White Eagle (2011).

3 She was born on 2 July 1923 in Prowent. She resided later in Cracow until the end of her life. She was described as a " Mozart of Poetry „. Her first publication was a poem „Looking for words” in 1945. Poems by Szymborska were a source of inspiration not only for readers but also for other artists. 5 Czesław Miłosz was born on 30 June 1911 in Lithuania, died 14 August 2004 in Cracow. He studied law at the University of Vilnius. From 1945, Czesław Miłosz worked as a Polish cultural diplomat in the USA and France. Since 1951, he stayed in exile. He was a professor of Slavic Languages and Literature at the University of California, Berkeley and Harvard University. In 1980, he received the Nobel Prize in literature.

6 The work of Miłosz (both poetry and prose) wasn’t known nor published in Polish. After receiving the most prestigious literary award in the world the poet began to visit Poland. In the 90s he returned to the country and settled in Cracow.
