Phylum Anthophyta This phylum is split into two classes (monocotyledons and dicotyledons) The number of cotyledons distinguishes a monocot and a dicot This phylum includes the flowering plants (flower and fruit). Roses, Oaks, Aspens, and all angiosperms

Monocots Have….. A single cotyledon Parallel Venation Flower parts (petals, anthers, sepals) in three’s Ex: corn, rice, bamboo, wheat, palms, lilies, irises, onions, and bananas

Dicots Have…… Two cotyledons Net venation (pinnate or palmate) Radially arranged vascular bundles (a circle) Flowering parts in 4’s or 5’s Ex: beans, lettuce, maples, elms, roses, cactuses, most broad-leaved forest trees
