Background Legislative history 2009 – American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA, aka stimulus act) boosts SNAP benefits by 13.6%. 2010 – Congress votes twice to end SNAP boost early in order to fund other priorities (school lunch and teacher pay).

Options for Relief “Where can I find more food?” Direct emergency requests to 2-1-1 Local food banks may offer special programs – find yours at TFBN.org

Options for Relief “Can I get higher SNAP benefits?” Seniors with out‐of‐pocket medical costs are can receive a standard medical deduction. Families with child or adult care expenses can receive a dependent care deduction.

Options for Relief “Can I get higher SNAP benefits?” To obtain the benefit of these deductions, the client must report changes to HHSC.
