8. Advisement Basics Lessons Each Thursday All senior classes will be covering the same topics and have the same lessons. Some of these lessons might take more than one Advisement meeting to complete. All of the lessons were designed with what a Senior needs to be successful this year and in the near future. Some topics include registering to take the SAT/ACT, applying for college and technical school, military options, portfolio check…

You will need to include three examples of the work you did in Advisement your junior and senior years as part of your portfolio We will have a portfolio check later on in the year and we will remind you of this then. Syllabus for Advisement Class of 2013 Description: This year’s Advisement is designed to provide a meaningful, enriching environment where topics that are relevant and pertinent to your class can be explored and discussed. Each Senior Class Advisement will be working on the same lessons throughout the year to ensure that you are all receiving the same information. In addition to providing a unique opportunity to meet by grade-level to deal with class-specific issues, Advisement is required by both State and Federal Legislation. Objectives: Besides your regular club and other activities that normally take place during advisement, time will be set aside to cover specific lessons on Thursdays. The objectives of these lessons are to prepare you for graduation, help you through the application process for college or technical school, and prepare you for a job and all the challenges you will face once you are a legal adult. Grading: Each activity will be graded and recorded. This grade will be reflected in your Advisement grade on your report card. The work you do in Advisement will also be part of your Senior Portfolios. You will be required to have 3 samples of work from advisement for your junior and senior years of high school. It is your responsibility to place all advisement activities in your advisement folder. Your advisor will keep your folder. This will ensure that you have all required work to include in your Senior Portfolio. Assignments: We will cover the following topics from now until the end of the school year.
