4. Correct! This is a statue of Buddha. Buddha was a philosopher/founder of the religion of Buddhism. Many people rub the laughing Buddha’s belly for luck and prosperity. The largest outdoor Buddha statue is located in Hong Kong at the Po Lin Monastery and symbolizes the impact of Buddhism as a center for their beliefs. It is visible at great distances and is also a tourist attraction.

He is believed to be the reincarnation of the long line of “Buddhist Masters” who choose to come back to earth to teach about human values such as compassion, forgiveness and tolerance. His sayings instructed Chinese to live with good morals/values and political responsibilities. His philosophy became a religion and many of its ideas (such as respect) are similar to other religions like Christianity and Islam.
