Maryland, Dartmouth College v. Woodward and Gibbons v. Ogden) outraged States’ Rights advocates. * 0: I do not know how Americans built national unity and a stronger national economy but I am ready to learn.

5 * Spain’s control of North America steadily weakened over several hundred years * Spain had a difficult time stopping enslaved African Americans from escaping plantations and joining with the Seminoles

6 In 1817 US Government sent Andrew Jackson to recapture slaves Jackson attacks Seminole villages killing and capturing Jackson’s attacks showed Spain they could not control a take over from the USA Spain ceded or gave up Florida in the Adams-Onis Treaty for 5 million dollars What a deal!

7 * American and French Revolution inspired Latin Americans to fight for Independence * Mexico Breaks Away under an army of a Miguel Hidalgo in 1810 * Finally in 1821, Mexico wins freedom from Spain * South and Central America fight for freedom but unlike the American Revolution, they did not unite to fight for freedom

13 * Britain controlled Canada * French in Canada unsuccessfully rebelled against Britain * Act of Union of 1841 gave Canadians more power of self-government but still remained under British control * By 1846, Canada and USA settled many border disputes which improved relations between the two countries
