2 Working Papers Working papers are required for minors under 18 for most jobs. Working papers are obtained from the school. Working papers are kept on file by the employer and returned to student when employment ends.

3 Types of Working Papers
Student Non-Factory: year old in a non-factory setting Student General Employment: year old student attending school Full-Time Employment: year old not attending school

4 How Do I Get Working Papers?
Written permission from parent Birth certificate or other form of proof of age Certificate of physical fitness

5 Working “Off The Books”
It is a violation to work “off the books” or “under the table”. Your employer can be charged with a misdemeanor and can face a fine or imprisonment

6 Permitted Hours for 16-17 Yr. Olds
While School Is In Session May not work past 10:00 pm on a night preceding school. No more than 4 hours Mon-Thurs No more than 8 hours Fri, Sat, Sun, or Holiday

7 Permitted Hours for 16-17 Yr. Olds
While School Is In Session Maximum 28 hours per week Maximum 6 days per week May not report for work before 6:00 am May not work during school attendance hours

8 Exemptions Students enrolled in a cooperative work experience:
May be employed up to 6 hours Monday through Thursday

9 Permitted Hours for 16-17 Yr. Olds
When School Is Not In Session: May work up to 8 hours a day May work 6 days a week May work up to 48 hours per week May work 6 am to midnight during summer

10 Permitted Hours for 14-15 Yr. Olds
While School Is In Session May not work more than 3 hours per day Maximum 8 hours on a Saturday or non-school day Maximum 18 hours per week May not work more than 6 days per week May only work between 7 am and 7 pm

11 Exemptions Students employed as part of any type of supervised work study or work experience program: May be employed up to 23 hours per week

12 Permitted Hours for 14-15 Yr. Olds
When School Is Not In Session: May work up to 8 hours a day May work 6 days a week May work up to 40 hours per week May work 7 am to 9 pm during summer

13 Posting Schedules The employer must make a schedule for all minors and post it in a visible place. The schedule must show the hours for the minor including meal times.
