4 Artifacts: Tools Of Discovery Some weapons the early civilizations used were made out of different types of stone, and whatever else they could find The tools they used during that period helped with their food, building, and overall living

5 Hunter-Gatherers Early humans didn’t have a store to go to when they needed their food and water. Some were sent out to hunt game, such as deer or turkey

6 Hunter-gatherers Others, the gatherers, were sent out to gather fruits and vegetables, and berries, such as blueberries, strawberries, or raspberries, for the tribe to eat

7 The language of the People The early civilization spoke to each other many ways. There was their developing language they already had

8 The language of the People And there was also their art. They made their art by crushing up different colored rocks, into powder

9 Early Farming Farming gradually replaced hunting and gathering for the early people. Some of their crops included: BARLEY

10 Early Farming Another crop they cultivated was EMMER (sometimes used in baking)

11 Early Farming Another main crop was ONIONS

12 Settled Life Being settled down, not moving from place to place, had its benefits. There was plenty more game when you’re not moving around all the time

13 Specialization Specialization was when they realized there were too many people for one type of job. Finally, they decided some could be hunters, some farmers, some pottery makers, Some weavers, or some tool makers

14 River Valleys River valleys were important because they provided Good farming conditions, which provided the people with food

15 River Valleys River valleys were also important because they were a way to trade Different goods and foods to other areas that would take much longer other ways

17 Gods and rulers They sacrificed and built temples to many different gods and rulers. One was ziggurat which meant “mountain of god” or “hill of heaven”

18 Gods and rulers At the top of ziggurat, was a huge shrine for sacrificial ceremonies

19 Advances in science and math One breakthrough in science and agriculture was the plow, different, but still used today

20 Advances in science and math Another great invention was the wagon wheel! (which is NOT used today; who uses wagons???)
