Apollo 18 Launch Readiness Review Maggie Williams Peter Merrick Cody Gondek Nathan Buzzell Chris Davidoff Jacob Hermann Jared Levin Lindsey Buxman 11/27/12

Mission Overview We will calculate the speed of sound as our satellite rises to an altitude of 30km We hypothesise that the speed of sound will change in relation to the changes in temperature and pressure This data could be useful for scientists calculating the density of the atmosphere of another planet

Design Overview Bottom box o Critical systems Camera Micro controllers Heater Sensors o Microphone o Temperature o g-force o Humidity o Pressure Top box o Speakers o Heater

Dry Ice Test

Dry Ice test- Temperature

Dry Ice test- Pressure and Humidity

Dry Ice test- Experiment Consistent data, but worse with time

Calibration/Wind Test Microphone Filtering o Passive - threshold o Active - stray data Precision of the clock o Percent error due to clock

Wind test

Drop Test Heights Drop angles

Kick/Whip Test minimal damage

Expected Results We expect to record accurate data from all sensors Hope to see predicted trends in this data From this flight, we hope to see how a change in altitude changes the speed of sound

Biggest Worries The microphone won't pick up the sound from the speakers The carbon fiber tubes snap. The camera lense fogs up.

Requirement Compliance
