1920s America – “One long, crazy party, with jazz music playing on the radio, young fashionable women known as flappers wildly dancing the Charleston, large quantities of illegal alcohol being consumed, and everyone behaving in a scandalous manner.”

War = disturbing and destructive Life is short – enjoy it!!!!!!!

4 1920s - Government Immigration quotas – keep undesirable people out
Isolationist policies – worry about ourselves not the rest of the world Pro-business Republican presidents Harding and Coolidge – laissez-faire

5 1920s - Society Threat of communism – “Will they take over?”
Fear of immigrants Fear of labor movement – “I do not like their radical ideas!”

6 1920s - Technology Growth of automobile industry
Airlines as transportation Widespread use of electricity Advertising increases

8 1920s – Economy Increased standards of living
Buying on credit – installment plans Superficial prosperity – People bought more than they could afford by using credit.
