3  Personal care  Bathing  Cooking  Cleaning  Laundry  Advantage is working one on one with the client during a designated period of time

4  Poor access to bathroom or shower  No safety bars, cluttered floors  Poor lighting, narrow halls, uneven floors  Substandard electricity, lack of smoke alarms  Space heaters, wood stoves  Obstacles, ripped carpet, throw rugs  Pets, rodent infestation, dark or icy entries  Dangerous neighborhoods, remote areas

5  Other caregivers or even family can be the abuser  May be taking the elders money, medications, valuables, etc (clients are very vulnerable)  Not providing adequate care  May have dementia or be afraid to report  Little or no oversight may exist as it “happens behind closed doors”  You are at risk! Never confront! REPORT! Call 911  GUARD YOUR OWN SAFETY
