2 2 General: Sellers’ Side Useful marketing exercise for the Sellers. Updated the sellers on Terms & Conditions of some of the existing ER-purchase programs. A learning experience for the non-project countries in the region: CDM market potential. How some neighboring countries are leading the way.

3 3 Buyers’ Side Status of CDM institutional preparedness of countries in the region. Networking with the Who’s Who in the CDM sector in participating host countries. In-depth look into existing project pipelines.

4 4 Fuel for Thought: For the Sellers Need to deeply understand what the Buyer is looking for. One success story is crucial for triggering CDM in the country. Similar competing projects being offered in the region (Wind in Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia): Need for Project Differentiation (Marketing Strategies): At the Project level. At the Macro level.

5 5 Differentiation: Project Level (Wind in Morocco vs. Wind in Egypt?) Well defined project partners in host countries: No new players at a later stage. Clear property rights & ownership of project elements: Project land site. CERs. One Front Entity to deal with buyer (e.g. RE Agency): Package the project. Deal with red tape. Obtain letter of approval from DNA.

6 6 Differentiation: Macro Level (Landfill in Tunis vs. Landfill in Casablanca?) Clear & simple project approval procedure. Positive experiences by other buyers. Overall investment climate & Sovereignty Risk.

7 7 For the Buyers Level of preparedness varied greatly between host countries receiving capacity building vs. those who do not: Complexity of CDM’s Modalities & Procedures makes building capacities of host countries a key ingredient for success of the CDM concept. Pressing need for more ER-purchase programs to consider allocating funds for Capacity Building: Will indirectly contribute to reduction of your transaction cost.
