5 Think of three reasons having school uniforms would be a good idea.
Write them down, then talk to your partner

6 Think of three reasons having school uniforms would be not be a good idea.
Write them down, then talk to your partner

7 An Persuasive Example Do you think school uniforms are a good idea? Some people argue that uniforms in schools are beneficial because they cause less distractions, and some argue that they are not a good idea because they take away a student’s individuality.

8 These are things that make a fabulous persuasive essay
A position (opening)statement that shows your opinion and gets the readers attention An interesting introduction paragraph with a hook that lays out your ideas At least 3 body paragraphs with creative ideas that give specific reason to agree with you Tremendous transition words between paragraphs A concluding paragraph with a clincher that makes a strong statement

9 Would these hooks catch you?
Talk to your partner and tell me if you think these examples would get your attention at the beginning of an essay. I would hate wearing uniforms. How would you like it if people made fun of you just because of what you wore? Would you like to be able to sleep in longer before school? All kids are individuals and should be allowed to express their creativity. I am going to tell you about getting school uniforms.

10 An interesting opening paragraph
Never say “Hello….blah blah” or “This essay will be about…” BORING! You never get a second chance to make a first impression. Have a “Hook”-Something that gets the readers attention You can include: An example that shows your point of view-Imagine not having the pressure to choose clothes that make you fit in. A statement that shocks your readers with something they will have to think about- 95% of students hate to be bullied, but clothes are the number three reason for kids to be made fun of. A question that gets the reader to think- Do you think someone should be made fun of just because of the clothes they wear? You should also introduce your reasons you will explain in the body paragraphs

11 3 creative body paragraphs with innovative ideas
You should come up with three points to support your opinion Each of the points will be turned into a body paragraph Try to think of ideas that no one else would think of Look back at your reasons for or against school uniforms.

12 3 example reasons for the body paragraphs (an example)
Position Statement: Uniform policies are beneficial in schools, and should be implemented nationwide. Reason 1: Allows for less bullying based on wardrobe. Reason 2: Students will concentrate more on school and less on attire. Reason 3: It cuts down on cost of school clothes and time spent getting ready in the morning.

13 Tremendous transition words and phrases
Transition words move from one thought to the next Usually at the beginning of 3 body paragraphs Avoid the same weak transition words (first, next, last) Use phrases such as:in addition, another example, although many believe…, a strong argument is…, one important reason is…

14 A killer conclusion paragraph with a clincher statement
Your conclusion should review your opinion and why your readers should agree A clincher statement is the last line of your paper. It should almost shock your reader Your conclusion is your last chance to leave a lasting impression. What if you couldn’t afford to wear clothes that kids thought were cool? Think about being that kid who gets picked on because they are not like everyone else. Imagine worrying all day about what kids are saying about your clothes . Uniforms allow students to be who they are, not what they wear. Students shouldn’t have to worry about not fitting in because they don’t have the right clothes. After all, shouldn’t school be about academics rather than apparel?
