Evaluation of Laptops (Including Benchmarks) By Josh Wild Task 3.2 U2_M3D2_Version_1

Benchmark Scores Joshua Wild

Run Details As you can see from the final screenshot, the laptop that the benchmark test was run on is possibly the worst that’s ever been ran using this benchmark test. It got a score of 407 overall, which is lower than a 2013 Office PC. This means that this PC will not be able to process and run video editing software such as Sony Vegas, which is one of the requirements of the computer, so that an apprentice can take a video editing software course. However, I predict the computer I have built will score between about 7000 and 13000, which means it will have more than enough power to be able to edit video and more. Joshua Wild

Graphics Card Information As you can see, the benchmark test also shows us all the specifications of this computer. This computer has an Intel HD Graphics 4000 Mobile graphics card. However, this means there is no separate component for the graphics card, there graphics are integrated into the motherboard. Whilst these graphics will do for any regular user, when you are editing and processing video, you’ll need a separate graphics card as it will provide more graphical power. Joshua Wild

Processor Information The processor in this computer is an Intel Core i3-3110M. Intel make three main types of processors, i3, i5, and i7. i3 is the least powerful, i7 is the most powerful. That basically means that this computers processor is very weak and doesn’t have much power at all. Also, as you can see from the row “# of cores” the processor only has two cores(this is called a “dual core processor”. The more cores the more powerful the processor will be and the better it will be at multi-tasking. Joshua Wild

General Information This is just some general information provided by the benchmark test. It shows the operating system, motherboard model, the hard drive model and more. Joshua Wild

D2 Overall, this computer is not suited to the needs of the department. It either needs upgrading or completely replacing, preferably the latter. To improve it, first of all you would need a better processor. For this, I would recommend an Intel Core i5 4690K processor. This processor would be much more suited to the job that the department need it for as it is significantly more powerful and will be able to multi-task much better. Another way that the computer could be improved is by adding a dedicated graphics card to the computer. The graphics card I would recommend for this is the Nvidia GTX 970 graphics card. This is one of the most powerful graphics card available to the public today. This card will handle anything you throw at it and it will keep up with other graphics cards for the next few years, meaning you won’t have to upgrade any time soon. One final way that you could improve this system, is by adding/swapping out the HDD(Hard Disk Drive) for an SSD(Solid State Drive). SSD’s are much faster than HDD’s and many people choose to store their operating system on an SSD, as it makes it boot and run much faster than when stored on a HDD. One downside to an SSD is that they are expensive, so the best thing to do is to buy an SSD to run alongside a HDD. Joshua Wild
