BANTU Over 400 different ethnic groups of Africa from south of the Sahara desert to South Africa sharing a common language

MIGRATION Large scale movement occurring over large distances over time in different phases

ACHIEVEMENTS Iron-making- Bantu introduced iron making to southern Africa Iron axes and hoes allowed Bantu to cut down trees and farm Trade networks with East Coast brought yams, potatoes, and bananas that grew in rainforest

FAMILY IMPORTANCE Primary social structure, extended clans The clan is a political unit - a group of elders hold power Kingdoms come together as multiple clans combine into one area. Led by the leaders of the most powerful clan
