2 Planning History Highlighted in 1997 & 2003 Accreditation Reports Need for more comprehensive system Several iterations proposed and tested since 2003 President’s Direction in January 2007 –Establish a comprehensive ‘plan to plan’ –Include all component parts –Work with all constituency groups –Implement in Fall 2007 for 2008-09 Academic Year plan Strategic Planning System implemented in Sep 2007 –Working on campus community acceptance and understanding of the system

3 An Example Application Situation: Tracking data shows that the student support program that you are managing has had a rapid increase in the number of students that are being served. As you look at your next year’s departmental unit plan, you identify an adjacent area that needs to have a minor remodeling project done, some new office furniture installed and one additional classified staff member to meet the growing student needs. Q: How do you go about obtaining the resources that you’ve identified??

16 Strategic Planning System Summary Comments Strategic Planning System Processes implemented Fall 2007 Resource allocation decisions for 2008-09 Academic Year now completed –‘Executing’ the 08-09 Plan –Assessing outcomes and collecting data 2009-2010 Planning Cycle underway Student Learning Outcomes, program review, metrics and other ‘outcome’ measures are being refined Campus wide involvement is needed to improve the system!!
