LATIN is the original ESPERANTO – the original international language of Europe - Studying Latin supports learning: FRENCH and SPANISH as they are ROMANCE languages GERMAN because of similar features in GRAMMAR and syntax ENGLISH because 60% of English words are derived from Latin – even more when considering science specific vocabulary Linguistic Merits Spalding High School Respect

There are 2 classes who continue with Latin in year 9 There is the opportunity to study Latin to GCSE and A-Level There is also A-Level Classical Civilisation which explores the culture of Greece and Rome through it’s literature (not in Latin) Both Latin and Classical Civilisation are considered well-respected courses by colleges and universities because of the skills they develop Beyond Year 8 Spalding High School Resourceful
