The Twelve Month Novel and Script LIVE Course Second Draft Take the story and characters you found in the first draft course and turn them into a great second draft. In most cases, the second draft will be twice as good as the first. You can do the course live at our Bronte Studio or online.
2
Aim of Course In the First Draft, you found your characters and your story. In the Second Draft you nail it down, so that story, character and theme work together as a cohesive whole. As you apply the second draft tools to your first draft you will be amazed by the potential depth of your characters and story just waiting to be bought out.
3
The First Step Spend a day doing a series of exercises to find the the Seven-Turning Point spine of your story that will guide the whole second draft process. This spine will be the essential framework that grounds your story and will guide the whole process.
4
The Second Step You will then systematically work through each of the Seven Turning Points. Each turning point is broken into steps, sequences and scenes. This ensures your story works as an integrated whole and enables you to build the emotion, drama and theme of your story so that it realises its full dramatic potential.
5
The Turning Points & Steps The turning points spin your story around and are the key growth points of your story. The steps are the key dramatic actions that take you from one turning point to the next.
6
Sequences & Scenes The sequences are the key emotional and dramatic beats that make up each step. The scenes detail each sequence. By breaking your story down at these levels you maximise the emotion, character growth and drama of your story.
7
The Key to Planning Character and structure are two sides of the same coin. One exists to reveal the other. For each section you first work out what the character growth is. You then find the dramatic actions which put pressure on your character to create that growth. Action reveals character.
8
Connecting with your Character In each class you will also do a series of exercises that will develop your connection with your characters’ emotion and voice. The exercises will improve your writing and enable you to really develop your characters and deepen their character arc.
9
The Dance The dance between structure and imagination will make sure that your story remains alive throughout the process as you refine your story so that it reaches its full dramatic potential and works together from beginning to end.
10
By the End of the Course 1.You will nail down the structure of your story from top to bottom and have your story working as a cohesive whole. 2.Most stories are twice as good by the end of the process. 3.You will have dramatically improved the quality of your writing and story telling ability so that you understand the art and craft of the process at a deep, organic level.
11
You will experience the joy of having nailed your story down and completed your second draft!
