Taxes and Resistance After Treaty of Paris, France and Spain were not a problem for the colonists But Great Britain owed a lot of money because of the war Great Britain acquired much more territory that had to be defended The king needed more money!

Britain’s Tightening Controls To defend colonists, more British troops were stationed in the colonies 1764: Parliament decides the colonists should help to pay for the war and protection by the troops – passed taxes on sugar and paper Writs of Assistance: search warrants that allowed the army to search anywhere for smuggled goods
