A blizzard is a snow storm that covers the earth in a blanket of snow.

Polar air is very cold. When it blows over land during the winter it’s common for a blizzard to get stirred up.

Blizzards occur in Canada, Russia or the north-central or northeastern parts of the United States.

Location: Carribean, Easter Island and central United States, and Eastern Canada. Date: March 12-14 1993. Impact: Over 300 people killed and 2.5 million without power.

A car or a road will be covered in snow so that it makes it hard to drive through. Planes also get delayed during blizzards.

The snow could freeze plants and they could die or get frost bite. Blizzards can affect live stock and cause losses too.

During the Terra Nova Expedition, blizzards caused them trouble like getting frost bite.

The worst northeast blizzard was in 1978 and it killed over 60 people.

In the 2007 Oklahoma ice storm, it knocked down trees and cars. It killed over 27 people.
