Essential Questions Questions which touch our hearts and souls. They are central to our lives and help to define what it means to be human. What does it mean to be a good friend? What kind of friend shall I be? Who will I include in my circle of friends? How shall I treat my friends? How do I cope with the loss of a friend? What can I learn about friends and friendships from books I read? How can I be a better friend?

Essential Questions Essential Questions probe the deepest issues confronting us... complex and baffling matters which elude simple answers: How did the Universe begin? What is life? How are humans different from animals? Why isn’t life fair? How do we know what is right or wrong? What happens when you die? Do aliens exist?

Subsidiary questions Questions which combine to help us build answers to our Essential Questions. WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DIE? Does some part of you live after your body is dead? Should you be scared of dying? What do you think happens after death? Is there any evidence of life after death? What about people who say they can remember their past lives? Have people always believed that there’s a life after death?

How are humans different from animals? What if a child were brought up by apes? What really makes humans so different? Can animals talk at all? What’s so good about being able to talk anyway? Do animals have religion? Are we really more intelligent than animals?
