1 4.6 Congruence in Right Triangles In a right triangle: – The side opposite the right angle is called the hypotenuse. It is the longest side of the triangle. – The other two sides are called legs. LEG HYPOTENUSE

2 Hypotenuse-Leg (HL) Theorem If the hypotenuse and a leg of a right triangle are congruent to the hypotenuse and leg of another triangle, then the triangles are congruent.

3 Conditions for HL To use the HL theorem, the right triangles must meet three conditions: – There are two right triangles. – The triangles have congruent hypotenuses. – There is one pair of congruent legs.
