2 P.NapierEVLA Advisory Committee, 11 June 2002 2 Phase II Timescale The overall goal for the EVLA Project is for completion (both phases) by 2010. The proposed Phase II timeline is: –Proposal ready for submissionLate 2002 –R&D Development FundingFY 2004 –Site AcquisitionFY 2005 –Start ConstructionFY 2006 –Project completionFY 2010 Decision of when to submit proposal to the NSF will be made by NRAO Director.

3 P.NapierEVLA Advisory Committee, 11 June 2002 3 Design & Development -- 2004 The NSF has been informed we would like to spend $1M for D&D in 2004, for: –Hiring 3 people for project management, studies of environment issues, RFI studies, land acquisition, and detailed project planning, –Hiring a FO engineer and civil engineer –Preparing a detailed Environment Impact Survey of the locations, through an existing company, and –Study of the computational impact of the proposed station and array design.

We are aiming at a cost of ~$80 – 90 M. –Decadal Panel recommendation: $140M (entire project) –NSF Contribution to Phase I: $ 50M Component Breakdown: –E-Config:~$3M –Low-Freq: ~$7M –NMArray (based on 25 m antennas):~$70M
