2 + Prewriting September 6, 2011 Warm up: Under your drawing copy the following definition Character Sketch--a written description of a character without necessarily including a narrative story. Next, read the sample student essay in the Write Source book on pages 76-77 and answer #3 and 4 on page 7. Drawing Share your drawing of a hero. Be sure to include any identify specific traits you included in your picture. 7

3 + Prewriting Continued On the top of page 8 in your spiral, create a circle with the titles like this one. Next, fill in each section with at least three ways to describe your character. If you finish early, add to the lists—the more details the better. Character’s Name 8 GT

5 + Writing On pages 8-9 write your first draft of your character sketch. Each paragraph will have a different purpose. Copy this down in the top margin of page 8. (If you run out of room, use loose leaf and attach it) #1 should introduce the character. #2 should be about how your character looks #3 should be how your character thinks and feels. #4 should be how you character acts. #5 should be your final thoughts and conclusion.
