MINDSET OF A DISCIPLE LUKE 5:1-11

…BUT AT THY WORD I WILL… In letting down the net: Peter voices doubt, but was willing to follow the Lord’s word – Luke 5:5 In laying down the net: Peter doubts himself when he sees the results, recognizing his sinful state in the presence of the authority of the Lord – v. 6-8 But he and his partners were willing to leave all when the Lord called them – v. 9-11 Peter showed the mindset of a disciple. It was enough for him that the Lord told him to do something, even if he didn’t think it would work.

WILLING TO DO LORD’S WILL?– IN BECOMING HIS DISCIPLE Do we worry we are too sinful and cannot serve? – Luke 5:8,31-32; 1 Cor 6:9-11 Do we let other things come first when the Lord calls? – Matt 10:37; Luke 9:23-26; Luke 14:16-24 Do we answer His call the way His gospel tells us to? With a faith in Him based on His word – Rom. 10:17; Jn 3:16; Heb 11:6 Repenting and leaving our sinful behavior behind – Luke 13:3; Acts 3:19 Confessing Jesus as the Son of God, raised from the dead – Rom. 10:9-10 Being baptized to have our sins washed away – Acts 2:38 Are we looking to answer His call or to follow our own path?

WILLING TO DO LORD’S WILL? – IN BEING HIS DISCIPLE Laying up treasure in heaven instead of here? – Luke 12:15-21 Seeking His kingdom before other concerns – Luke 12:29-34 Do we trust the Lord, as Peter did, or do we trust our judgment and experience?

WILLING TO DO LORD’S WILL? – IN BEING HIS DISCIPLE Worshipping Him as His inspired apostles specified? Singing with our heart as the only instrument? – Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16 Men exclusively in public worship roles? – 1 Cor. 14:34-35 Observing the Lord’s Supper on the first day of the week? Acts 20:7 Do we trust the Lord and His pattern or do we want to do things our own way?

…BUT AT THY WORD I WILL… Do we believe in His promised reward? – Heb. 11:6; 1 Cor. 15:58; Luke 18:28-30; 2 Pet 1:10-11 Is His word enough for us to answer “…but at thy word I will…”?
