Introduction Winter of 2010 & spring of 2011 Arab: means people in Western Asia & North Africa, one of largest ethnic groups (some say #2 after Han Chinese), most are Muslims today “Pro-democracy protestors against dictatorial regimes” Democracy: a government by the people & their elected representatives Dictator: a ruler who is not effectively restricted b by a constitution, laws, recognized opposition Regime: a mode or system of government Dictatorial regimes: where a state (country) is led by a single leader
